Sibling Discounts

Giving families with more than one child a reduction on their fees.

A discount may already be running

Until your school sets its own terms, a standard arrangement applies for you: 10% off, starting with the second child, with no upper limit. The settings page says so in an amber notice. If that is not what your school means to give, set your own terms before you bill the term rather than after.

1. Set your terms

Go to Finance → Set up → Sibling discount. "Offer a sibling discount" turns it on and off. "Discount" is the percentage you take off. "Children enrolled before it applies" is how many children a family must have for it to start — 2 means the second child and every child after. "Most one discount can be worth" puts a naira ceiling on a single discount, and can be left blank if you do not want one. Press "Save terms".

2. Decide about the eldest

"Discount the eldest child too" starts switched off: the eldest pays full fees and the younger children are the ones discounted. Switch it on if your school means every child in the family to benefit — with three children that is three reduced bills instead of two.

3. Apply it, bill by bill

Billing the term does not apply the discount. Somebody has to open each child's bill and do it: under "Sibling discount", press "Check eligibility" to see what that family qualifies for, then "Apply discount" to take it off. The apply button only appears once the check says the family qualifies, and checking changes nothing by itself. There is no way to do the whole school in one pass, so plan it as a job someone works through after billing.

⚠️ The children must be under the same guardian

Brothers and sisters are worked out from the guardian on each child's record, so two children only count as one family if they are linked to the same guardian. If the same mother was typed in twice, once when each child was enrolled, the school's records hold two different people and that family gets no discount at all — with nothing on screen to tell you. When you enrol a second child from a family you already have, choose the guardian already on file instead of entering their details again; the enrolment form offers you the existing one once it recognises the name and phone number.

⚠️ A bill nobody opens keeps its full amount

Because the discount is applied one bill at a time, a child whose bill is never opened is simply charged in full, and nothing anywhere flags that a discount was missed. If your school promises a sibling reduction, the safest habit is to work through the family bills in the same sitting as the billing run.

What the parent sees

The reduction is shown as its own line rather than a smaller total, so the bill still says what was charged and what was taken off. The line records the rate used and how many enrolled children were counted, and says so where your ceiling limited the amount — which is what you want in front of you when a parent rings to ask why two children were not charged the same.
